Walk leader: Brenda Cameron

This is a 4.5 mile circular walk from Barnt Green train station with a tea/snack break. We meet at Barnt Green station at 10.45 am.

By train:  The 10.15 am train from Birmingham New Street leaves at 10.15 am and arrives at Barnt Green at 10.42am, stopping all stations on the way. The train from New Street to Barnt Green usually goes from Platform 12B, but check first.  Please also make sure you catch the correct train, the 10.15 am.  The return fare is £5.40.  West Midlands concessionary travel holders need to buy a ticket from Longbridge to Barnt Green.

If driving:  meet at Barnt Green Station at 10.45 am. Parking charge £3.20 at the station’s carpark. However, as it’s a weekday the station carpark may be full but there is roadside parking close by the station. Hewell Road alongside the railway line would be a good option – although there may be parking restrictions for just a short section by the shops immediately outside the station.

This is a 4.5 mile circular walk from Barnt Green train station  with a tea/snack break (bring your own snacks – see below). Please note there are one or two very gradual easy ascents which we will take steadily so all can enjoy the walk. From Barnt Green station we walk north along a well graded tree-lined path, cross a lane and continue north through the woods until arriving at the visitor centre for a toilet stop.  At time of writing the cafe itself has closed down although the toilets remain - so you will need to bring your own snacks and drinks for when we have a break. We head off along Monument Lane and pass a very large obelisk just off the lane and go through Beacon Hill Woods, an outlier of the Lickeys before making our way back on to the main track south.  Along this path is an impressive row of tall trees standing high above the track.  From here we retrace our outward route back to Barnt Green station. There is a very good cafe outside the station which we will visit for those who want to finish with refreshments before the train home. There are three trains an hour back towards Birmingham. The Lickey Hills in autumn should still be showing autumn colours at the time we go.  When I walked round here at a similar time last year the colours were lovely.

Expressions of interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Tuesday12 November 2024. After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or contact us through our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact to enquire about any late availability for the walk.

==============================================================

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or let us know though our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than transferring it to someone else.
