This is a leisurely 6–7-mile linear walk around the town of Warwick, and involves guided tours, a variety of historic sites, parks and gardens, and a late afternoon pub meal.
MEET THE WALK LEADER AT MOOR STREET STATION by 9.00 am. LATEST. Train departs from Moor Street station at 9.15 am., arrives Warwick station 9.41 am. (Since this is a linear walk, travel by car is not recommended). Please purchase a return rail ticket to Warwick.
From Warwick station we stroll through Priory park - a splendid public open space containing some magnificent trees. We then walk down Barrack Street and through the market square before arriving at Hill Close Gardens, where we will receive refreshments and a guided tour from 10.30 am. These are a series of sixteen hedged pleasure gardens created in 1845, and originally tended by local Victorian townsfolk as a means of escaping crowded town life. Situated beside Warwick racecourse and now grade II listed, the gardens have been lovingly restored and are nationally recognised. After our tour we follow Castle Lane, past the main entrance into the castle and into picturesque Mill Street. At the end of the street is the Mill Garden, a small but perfectly formed half-acre plot on the banks of the Avon, dramatically situated beneath the walls of Warwick Castle. We then arrive at St. Nicholas Park, where if time permits, we will take a loop around the park beside the River Avon before pausing for our lunch break at approximately 1.00 pm. It is advisable to bring a packed lunch with you, although tea rooms and public conveniences are available here.Bookings for this walk will close at 06.00 on Wednesday 3 July 2024. After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or contact us through our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or let us know though our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you.
