Walk leader: Alan Daw

This is a leisurely 7 mile walk in the Worcestershire countryside (part one - 5 miles - lunch at the Queen's Head pub - part two - 2 miles).

Meet at the station entrance, New Road, Bromsgrove, B60 2LX. There is a large car park (Parking fee £3.00 for the day). IF TRAVELLING BY TRAIN: Depart Birmingham New Street 9.23 am. (normally platform 12b), otherwise join the train en route (Lichfield Trent Valley to Bromsgrove cross-city line). Arrive Bromsgrove station 9.56 am. (Be sure to catch the Bromsgrove train, and NOT the Redditch-bound train). Those possessing a West Midlands travel pass should purchase a return ticket from Longbridge to Bromsgrove. For anyone wishing to join the group for lunch only, please meet at the pub by 1.00 pm. The Queen's Head, Sugarbrook Lane, Stoke Pound, Nr. Bromsgrove, B60 3AU.

Leaving Bromsgrove station, we join the Monarch's Way for 2 miles until we reach St. Bartholomew's church. From here there are views as far as the Clee, Abberley and Malvern hills. We will take a short break here before continuing gently downhill to reach the Birmingham to Worcester canal and the Tardebigge flight; a series of locks climbing 220ft. over 2.25 miles - the longest in the UK. After pausing at the canal tunnel entrance, we soon reach Tardebigge top lock, which at 14ft. is the deepest narrow lock in the country. We continue along the towpath passing the 'Engine house' before reaching Tardebigge reservoir and another opportunity for a short break to enjoy the vistas and wildlife. We then pass the lower flight of locks until we reach the Queen's Head for our pub lunch. After lunch we return along footpaths and quiet country lanes back to the station.

Bookings for this walk will close at 06.00 on Wednesday 5 June 2024. After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or contact us through our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact to enquire about any late availability for the walk.

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or let us know though our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you.
