Walk leader: Alan Daw

This is an easy to moderate 4.5 mile walk over the Lickey Hills, focusing on the geology and history of the area. There are some steep inclines - the wearing of stout walking boots is recommended, and walking poles may also be helpful.

Meet on the car park of Barnt Green station at 10.45 am, Station Approach, B45 8PA. (There is a parking fee of £2.30, or free limited parking on the side road). By train from Birmingham New Street: depart platform 12b at 10.15 am, arrive Barnt Green station 10.42 am. (Standard return fare £5.40; those possessing a West Midlands travel pass should purchase a return rail ticket from Longbridge to Barnt Green).

Our walk from Barnt Green leads us into Lickey Hills Country Park which hopefully will display a late show of bluebells. We will pause briefly at the visitor centre before continuing gently downhill along the Drovers Way bridleway, then crossing a road onto a further footpath which skirts the golf course. We then climb Rednal Hill, which offers views towards the city centre; then head south across the ridge before retracing our steps along the Drovers Way back towards the visitor centre. We then take a loop over Bilberry Hill before arriving at Cofton Hill, with fine views over the Bittell reservoirs. Finally, we return through woodland back to the station.

Expressions of interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Thursday 16 May 2024 After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com to enquire about any late availability for the walk.

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or let us know though our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you.
