Walk leader: Brenda Cameron

This is a circular 4.75 miles walk.

Meet at Barnt Green station, B45 8PA at 10.45 am.
By train: The 10.15 am train leaves Birmingham New Street station and arrives at Barnt Green at 10.42 am. The train from New Street to Barnt Green usually goes from Platform 12B, but check first. Please also make sure you catch the correct train, the 10.15. The return fare is £5.40. West Midlands bus pass holders need to buy a ticket from Longbridge to Barnt Green.
By car: There is a car park at Barnt Green station for which the daily charge is about £2. The leader will meet walkers at Barnt Green station.

From Barnt Green station we take a short walk through the village followed by an easy going steady ascent up a grassy hill to join a quiet lane.  We soon leave the lane to make a gradual and very pleasing descent across fields, enjoying the views, to the hamlet of Withybed Green (near Alvechurch). A quiet backwater of a lane lined with pretty cottages leads to a wooded path and our second easy ascent of the walk. We across some fields giving us more good views and then a short canal section brings us to Upper Bittell Reservoir. Here we stop to enjoy the scene across this large body of water with its sailing craft and waterbird life. From the reservoir a wooded path following a stream then open fields bring us back to Barnt Green for our return train journey.  There is a cafe close to the station for those who would like refreshments prior to catching the return train. There are three direct trains an hour back to Birmingham. It should be noted there are two short easy ascents on this walk which are on good tracks, nothing too steep, and there are some stiles which should not cause us any problem. We will take this walk at a pace which is comfortable for all and enjoy some really nice views.

Expressions of interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Thursday 30 May 2024. After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com to enquire about any late availability for the walk.

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or let us know though our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you.
