Walk Details:

- A walk: Starting from the village of Dymock we follow Daffodil Way paths towards Allums Grove wood then on to Kempley Old Church.  The church has some of the best preserved medieval wall paintings in Britain dating from the early 12th century.  An absolute gem of a church and we will take our morning break here.  We continue to Kempley village, pass Kempley Green then on to Dymock Wood particularly attractive in spring with its show of wild daffodils.  We will take a picnic lunch around here.  Exiting the wood we cross the motorway and take a short circuit of Betty Daw daffodil wood.  We recross the motorway and pick up another Daffodil Way track through open country – wonderful views of the Malverns – back to Dymock.  We will have a short mid-afternoon break at Dymock pub and complete the walk with a circuit to the north of the village following field paths and quiet lanes. Picnic lunch.

- B walk: This is a circular walk from the village of Dymock where a group of poets and writers made their homes between 1911-14.  A display in the village church memorialises their work and achievements. In spring though, the area is best known for the daffodils that flower extensively in the fields and woods.  The walk largely follows the Daffodil Way starting west from the church over fields and through Allums Grove to Kempley Old Church (English Heritage for its well-preserved medieval wall paintings).  We then turn south largely following Kempley Brook and round to Kempley new church where we shall pause for a picnic lunch.  We return to Dymock via Dymock Wood.  Pub there if time

- C walk: The route starts in the Gloucester village of Dymock and follows most of The Daffodil Way, a circular walk among the wild daffodils surrounding Dymock and Kempley. We pass along woods, orchards, ponds, streams, meadows and fields. First we head west towards St Mary’s 13th century church with an interior filled with medieval wall paintings. Our direction now turns south leaving The Daffodil Way and rejoining it in the village of Kempley Green and Dymock Wood. A lane heads north-east to reveal a magnificent display of wild daffodils. The Daffodil Way then takes us back to Dymock with a pub stop at The Beauchamp Arms or maybe refreshments at the church.

There are a limited number of total places for the walks, which is set by the capacity of the coach. Whilst we hope that everyone will be able to be accommodated on their walk of choice, the allocation of places for each walk will have to be done on the day. No-one will be expected to walk at a higher grade than they prefer - thus, for example, if you prefer the B walk you will not be asked to join the A walk but may be asked to join the C walk. The booking form allows you to specify your preferred walk

It will only be possible to join the walk by coach, which will be picking up at 09.00 at the layby at the side of St. Chad’s Cathedral, Queensway, Birmingham B4 6EU. The coach fare will be £20 with 3 options for payment:

- Cash on the day in an envelope with your name and the date of the walk. We are unable to give change for cash payments

- Cheque on the day, made payable to COBRA, in an envelope with your name and the date of the walk.

- Bank transfer in advance of the walk

For payment by bank transfer the walk coordinator will contact you about a week in advance of the walk with bank details. For payments on the day, please put the exact fare in an envelope with your name and date of the walk on it, which will be collected on the coach - unfortunately we are unable to give change for the coach fare.

Note that you cannot pay the coach fare through our Eventcube account. Your booking for the walk will still show £0.00 but you do have to pay the £20 coach fare on or before the day of the walk.

Bookings for this walk will close at 06.00 on Monday 18th March 2024. After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or contact us through our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support/contact to enquire about any late availability for the walk.

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com or let us know though our contact form at https://cobra.eventcube.io/support-hub/contact - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you.
